Flesh & Buns was the first restaurant in London dedicated to steamed buns and Japanese drinking food.  Specialising in gua bao, expect fluffy steamed buns with gutsy fillings, plus loads more plates to share.  This is unusual, yet addictive, Japanese-inspired food served in a Izakaya setting. Grab some food, sip a Yuzu Margarita or beer and relax to the Bone Daddies signature old-school rock.

Booking Enquiries

Can we come in just for drinks?

For sure. Our bar isn’t massive, and it does serve as a dining counter as well, so there often isn’t a lot of space to hang out and drink. But you’re certainly welcome to come by and grab a beverage, particularly before your table meal.

Can we have a quiet table?

At Flesh & Buns, we like to play old-school rock music, so if you’re after a quiet night out, you may find that we’re not quite the place for you. If it’s just a slightly more intimate space you’d like, give us a call and we’ll try and work something out.

Can we reserve a booth?

For a large group this is possible. Please call or email us to arrange.

We don’t have a booking. Do you take walk-ins?

Absolutely – we always keep some tables un-booked to be able to accommodate walk-ins. There may be a wait involved, but we’ll always try to get you seated.

What’s your maximum party size?

In our booths, it’s 10. On our high sharing table, we can accommodate more. Give us a call or drop us a line to discuss.

Food & Drinks

Are you able to cater to coeliacs?

To an extent. We have a range of wheat-free dishes on the menu and can make adjustments to some of our dishes to make them suitable. But we do use soy sauce rather liberally, which contains wheat in small quantities – so the suitable menu options depend on the degree of gluten intolerance. Give us a call, drop us a line or ask our team when you come in. They’ll be able to recommend something suitable.

Please note: our buns are not gluten-free, but our flesh can be enjoyed wrapped in the mix of leaves we serve alongside it.

Do we all have to have the brunch menu?

Yes – the whole table would need to choose from the same menu, so as to keep things manageable for our kitchen team.

Do you add MSG to any of your food?

No, we absolutely don’t, and none of our ingredients contain it.

Do you do a special birthday dessert or cake?

Yes, we can make a birthday cake to order for you. Please get in touch if you’d like to arrange this. If it’s your own cake you’d like to bring in, there is a £15 ‘cakeage’ charge for the table.

Do you do take away?

Unfortunately not: our lease prevents us from offering any food or drinks to carry away, including doggy bags.

I have a food intolerance or special dietary requirement I can’t find the answer to here. What do I do?

Give us a call, drop us a line or ask our team when you come in. They’ll almost always be able to recommend something suitable.

I’m a vegetarian/vegan. Is there something on the menu I can eat?

There are quite a few vegetarian options on the menu, some of which may be adjusted to be suitable for vegans. We’re always working on adjusting and enhancing our menu, so dishes may change over time. Give us a call, drop us a line or ask our team when you come in. They’ll be able to recommend something suitable.

Is your meat halal?

Yes, our chicken is.

When are last orders/when does the kitchen close?

As per the timings on our website – when the doors close, last orders are taken, and the kitchen closes.

Why can’t I get delivery in my area?

We partner with Deliveroo, whose delivery algorithm works in mysterious ways that are beyond our comprehension. Do contact them if you feel they should include your postcode – demand will help extend their delivery radiuses!

Other questions you might have

Do you have a cloakroom?

We don’t have a dedicated cloakroom, but there are hooks for coats.

Do you have wheelchair access?

Unfortunately not. We are located in a basement with only a staircase leading to the dining room.

How do credit or debit card tips get distributed?

All tips are distributed amongst our waiting, bar and kitchen staff, following any tax related deductions.
